It was suggested that we have a theme for this year's FSCONS.

It should preferably be broad, so that any suitable track will fit
within the theme, but not too vague either.

Some keywords / theme suggestions mentioned during the meeting were:
* Crowd
* Economy
* Nordic Cooperation

Any more ideas?

I remember "accessibility" was suggested last year or the one before that (we then decided not to have a theme) But it was more in the focus then than it is now probably.

* Language technology
* Robotics, swarm intelligence, nanotech

Those sound a bit too specific to serve as a theme for the whole conference, they are more suited for independent tracks (we were actually discussing having a language technology track this year, if you are interested.)

That's what I meant -- themes for independent tracks. Sorry, I
didn't understand that the theme question was meant to be for the
whole conference as a whole.

So yes, I'd like to suggest them as track themes. And one more
track theme: Open Money. Including anything from Litecoin to
The Metacurrency Project.

I kind of like crowd. It could actually even be connected to "swarm intelligence" but also to other questions like "crowdsourcing" and "crowdfunding" (which seem relevant to FOSS,) the mining of "crowd-generated" data, participating democracye, etc

I agree, crowd seems best suited as a common theme for all the tracks
as a whole. But how strict is the common theme going to be?

On the other hand, having just one common word as a theme sounds a bit too large and maybe we should build a phrase around it, like "creative crowd", "connected crowd" (or "connected crowds" plural to make it sound more diverse.)

I agree. Crowd Economy Cooperation? :-)

We could make it cryptic, like the ccc mottos. "Connected crowd" could become "the anthill and the wifi" :-D

A few more suggestions:

ccc -- comcon crowds
cccc -- creative comcon crowds
ant colony optimization

Thomas

Jokes apart, we did say that the theme should not be a constraint for the track organizers but I don't recall us deciding what it should be used for? Is it supposed to be included in the visual theme? should it guide the choice of keynote speakers?
