1. I'm thinking that I can ask him to be a sponsor for FSCONS --
meaning that he pays all his own expenses, gasoline etc. and let us
borrow the sitting bags during FSCONS.
So then my question is, what do sponsors get in return? I'm guessing
their name/logo/link to their website on FSCONS' web site and in the
program flyer? Anything else?
Yes! Here are the sponsor deals we had last year, to give you an idea:
https://fscons.org/2013/sponsorships.html
That looks good. I'm guessing gasoline alone will be close to
half the bronze amount, then there is free rent/use of the bags
during the entire FSCONS, and I'm sure Tom can offer some pretty
good discounts on bags sold during FSCONS as well. Maybe even
offer some free bags to be kept by FSCONS -- but I haven't yet
discussed that with him.
Ok. Can you talk to him and try to work out a concrete proposition based
on this. To me, the main questions would be
- What can he bring (how many of those bags)?
- What happens if someone spills club mate on one of those? (or destroys
it by any other mean?)
Based on that, we can see which deals works best. I don't know how many
he usually charges for renting but maybe Bronze if he can bring 2 or 3
and silver if it's closer to 10? I'm not in charge of sponsors so maybe
Oliver has a different idea. And feel free to suggest something else if
you think it fits best.
I've discussed this further with Tom, and he would prefer to make
some entertaining event in the chill zone rather than stand in a
booth, and that means he would prefer to be paid rather than
being a sponsor, which would also guarantee him payment rather
than the uncertainty of maybe or maybe not selling sitting bags.
So he suggested a fee of NOK 10 000 for the job.
I suppose this is out of the question, right? Better to use the
limited resources on directly relevant things, such as sponsoring
travel expenses for speakers?
Thomas
3. He would obviously be happy if people at FSCONS bought some of the
bags and he didn't have to drive them all back to Norway. Maybe
FSCONS or FFKP would be interested to buy sitting bags for use at
other events?
I think in the case of both fscons and ffkp, it's gonna be difficult
to find space to store those.
Hmm, they can't be used as furniture elsewhere between
conferences?
But there might be other who can be interested, such as
hackerspaces (ghs, collaboratory...) or some startups.
OK -- do you have contact info for some of those?
You can try
ghs AT lists.hackerspace.se
and
info AT collaboratory.se
for
Gothenburg. But I don't know if they have a budget for that.
Cheers,
Grégoire
