Dear co-organisers,

FSCONS 2015 is almost here! Tonight we held a board meeting for the
society, and we wanted to share with you some updates on where we are
with the organizing.

The first and most important point is that we have decided to extend
the deadline for the cheaper "early bird" tickets to 25th October. We
need to get more participants interested, but if we all help with
promotion we should be able to reach beyond last years participant
numbers. Please help us, for the next few weeks, to reach out:
* if you have twitter, please tweet about fscons, and retweet eachother
* post links to our facebook event if you have facebook [0]
* invite coworkers, friends and acquaintances who might be interested
and ask them to spread the word too, even if they can't come themselves.
* tell emaillists you subscribe to, that we've extended the period for
cheaper tickets.
* when the posters arrive (see below) help us put them up where you can
* reach out to non-tech oriented groups as well -- this year for
instance librarians and the like should have an interest in our agenda.

It is very important that we, together, make a collaborative effort
starting tomorrow with this, and that we continue to do so for at
least two weeks. So please, if you can, try do do something of the
above each day, and please share your own ideas on how to reach out on
this list!

Now, here are some things that we can get excited about, and that may
help in promotion:
* The biohacking track will be really cool! They've promised to make
bioluminescent food and beverages for all to sample.
* Ken MacLeod is giving a keynote!(!!)
* Sometime in week 43 (19--25/10) there will be a social event for
volunteers. This will contain information for volunteers, but a main
purpose will be to have a social gathering for volunteers to get to
know us and each other. Bring a friend!
* Posters have been finished and will be printed presently. The
designs will also be available on the wiki, for those who prefer to
print their own. (Details to follow)
* We will order canvas bags with our logo on them that will be sold at
the event.

We also discussed the café, and would like to give you the heads up,
that we will need to have some minimalistic kind of café at the event
this year as well. Our suggestion is to keep it really simple: coffee
and tea free and readily available throughout the day, some snacks (a
minimum variety, e.g. delicatobollar, fruit and fresh waffles)
available cheap also throughout the day, and cold beverages for the
afternoon and evening.

Finally, this year is the ninth FSCONS. Next year is FSCONS X, and we
will be wanting to make something special for that, but lets not make
it easy for ourselves: let us make FSCONS 2015 something that is hard
to beat! Spread the word!
