Hi,

I'm going to the science fiction worldcon, Loncon 3, in London
14.-18. august. I'll meet some interesting people, including
people considered for key notes at FSCONS, such as Charlie
Stross, Ken MacLeod and Cory Doctorow.

I've been thinking about key notes at FSCONS, that we probably
have a too short time limit for inviting many of the potential
key notes, less than a year is too short time. Ideally, we would
be more than one year, up towards two years, ahead on key note
invitations. Meaning that, e.g., we would be sending out key note
invitations for FSCONS 2015 well before FSCONS 2014.

For example, Charlie Stross writes this on his web page,
"FAQ: Inviting Charles Stross to speak - what you need to know",
at
http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2009/07/faq-inviting-charles-stross-to.html
:

"If you're thinking of inviting me to an event, please be aware
that I'm usually booked up a year in advance, and I don't usually
accept invitations to events outside Edinburgh or Glasgow at less
than three months' notice—because such invitations almost
invariably mean international travel, which is disruptive at
short notice.
If you still want to invite me to your event, read on." [...]

The "booked up" period may be even longer for Doctorow.
I can check this with Doctorow and MacLeod.

So, I suggest to consider working out key note logistics one
year earlier than now.

Thomas
