So in other words, the Oslo/Norway group wants to ask a Big Question to our peers in Sweden: Is it better to pool our resources into organizing just One 2019 event, in november? (including organizational pooling such as using only the org mailing list and taking down the Oslo-org mailing list etc.).

Hi all,
these are the minutes from Sunday's meeting about a potential
FSCONS2019. Present were Thomas, Christian, Henrik and me, so all
save one of the orga that made FSCONS 2017 in Oslo happen. Before I
present the notes a quick word about me:
I am one of the founders of Hackeriet in Oslo and I played a part in
organizing FSCONS2017 because I felt I could make a difference.
I have a world of respect for what you have built with FSCONS in
Gothenburg and I did my best last year so that the FSCONS
in Oslo stayed true to that ideal. I'd love to see another FSCONS
happen, wherever it may be.
I will be sticking to English here although it is understood that most all
of us understand both Swedish and Norwegian.
* Agenda
We were hoping to see some of the Swedes visit us this weekend. We
did not mean to be so formal when we requested an agenda, and we indeed
held this meeting free of one but since we can hope for at most two
hours all together at an in-person meeting, we will strive for all
meetings going forward to have a clear bullet-point agenda, start and
end time. Going forward, clear communication will save us on
misunderstandings and ultimately make us stronger as an organization.
* FSCONS 2019: The big if.
The four of us present all agreed it would be worth having another
FSCONS in Oslo, and that we could work towards making that happen if
there is going to be one.
One of our biggest wants to improve from last year is that we believe
that the event would be better if Swedes and
Norwegians collaborated, especially on bringing in speakers.
We also believe that the very short time that remains until March/April
this November almost being over, Desember being what it is, three months is
what remains realistically, that
does not leave enough time or energy to create a conference and that
we should pool our resources to make one single event happen
preferably on the second weekend of November 2019.
One single FSCONS event with enough time to organize it properly is
really a condition for us to participate in organizing it.
* One channel for communication
If we all agree on the shared goal of making more FSCONS events happen,
then one point we can improve on is to have everybody share the same
channel for communication, to avoid misunderstandings and pool resources
and energy.
It doesn't really matter which channel that is as long as we all agree
on the same place for that communication. In this regard, having a
separate Oslo orga mailing works counter to its purpose.
* PR and sponsoring
If we are to have another event, last years event could have been better
in two ways: we could have been on the ball earlier with regards to
reaching out to people about the event, and we could have been better at
reaching out to sponsors - and earlier about applying for funding.
These crucial things were in the air until the last two months before the
conference.
Since we aren't professional event organizers, and FSCONS is nearly
unknown in Oslo, we feel that reaching out to an event agency for help in
the matter of marketing the event makes sense.
To summarize,
are you keen on making another FSCONS happen by finding interesting
and balanced speakers?
can we agree on a unified channel for communication?
Regards,
Kacper Wysocki
